The company was founded in the early 1990s as a university spin-off. From the very beginning, the focus was on the development of database-based systems for information management. From the mid-1990s, the idea of a centralised content management system for all output channels emerged. Since the early days, our ideas and developments have been based on three pillars.
Trends
We constantly monitor and evaluate current trends and incorporate them into our software development. This means that InterRed has its finger on the pulse and is often one step ahead when a trend becomes a new standard. Recognising trends at an early stage and evaluating the necessary solutions often offers the opportunity to be one of the first companies to support "the next big thing". For example, the importance of Web 2.0 was recognised, used and implemented for customers at an early stage before the advent of social media.
However, long-term development is also an important concern for InterRed. Research is an important basis for this.
Research
We work in co-operation with various universities in different areas of research. The focus is on basic research with long-term goals as well as short-term research and studies to optimise InterRed's solutions.
Whether in the field of multi-channel publishing, usability, knowledge management or computer linguistics, our strong links with the university sector enable us to recognise long-term trends. Topics such as computer-aided writing, data journalism or multimedia storytelling, for example, can be integrated into our own solutions at an early stage. The fact that the focus is not only on the theoretical side, but also and above all on practical application for our customers, is further underpinned by the regular strategy comparisons within our customer projects.
Strategies
We work closely with our customers as a software supplier and full service provider. We are active in the areas of consulting, project realisation and subsequent maintenance as well as further development and see ourselves as a comprehensive solution provider. In this context, we continuously harmonise our strategies with our customers. This synchronisation allows our customers to look into the future of InterRed and InterRed to look into the future needs of our customers. This form of strategy synchronisation means that InterRed is able to develop and offer both the right concepts and approaches in a constantly changing environment that are precisely tailored to the respective customer. This in turn enables InterRed customers to adapt to changes in the market, improve and establish themselves within existing processes. This holistic approach makes InterRed GmbH one of the most successful providers of publishing solutions. It also makes InterRed one of the most competent partners for testing, analysing and improving strategies.
The beginning
InterRed GmbH was founded in 1993 by ambitious computer scientists and engineers with the aim of developing innovative products of outstanding quality and professionally realising customer projects. The basic prerequisite for this is comprehensive, competent and personalised customer support.
After three years of development and consulting in various areas of database design and management, the visionary creators realised very early on the importance of the Internet and digital media in general for the developing information and knowledge society. Just as industrial production emerged from craftsmanship, digital media would revolutionise the conventional production and dissemination of information.
InterRed", one of the first content management systems on the German market, was therefore developed as early as 1995. Even at this early stage, the team around company founder Dr André Klahold had the foresight to recognise that two central strategies were necessary for a future-oriented product. Firstly, the system must be so flexible that it can centralise and manage all types of information. Be it editorial articles, product information, adverts, master data, etc., all must meet the high quality requirements of the information society. On the other hand, the concepts already take into account that the ways in which information is disseminated, created and managed will change with the new digital media. However, it is recognised that the traditional forms and channels will be supplemented, not replaced. This realisation led to the vision of using InterRed to create a system that manages all content centrally, makes it available and can distribute it via any output media. This concept can only be realised with a database design that is unusually versatile in the IT world and with cross-media content management.
An intensive design and development process is therefore initiated, which initially lays the foundations for the cross-media, neutral management of information in a one-year development programme. The first output layer - the web - only became the focus of development once the basic principles had been developed. This prudence and the enormous development effort form the basis for the fact that InterRed is still one of the few systems on the German market whose core component has never had to be redesigned.
The strategic decision in favour of this particular concept leads the company down a very independent and innovative path, which benefits the company's customers in particular.
Today
Several hundred person-years of solution development and project experience after the start, the corporate culture is inspired by the same spirit of the founding period. Always on the lookout for innovations, we conduct extensive research in co-operation with various universities, we investigate the needs of the market and create visions. As a result, today we are recognised as one of the most dynamic and future-proof companies in the publishing solutions market and a significant landmark in the entire industry.
